Join Our Youth Boys 16U Club Team!

The New York Strangers will hold tryouts for our 16U Boys Competitive Volleyball Team on August 16–17, 2025.

Participants will sharpen their competitive volleyball skills in a travel team-driven environment under the New York Strangers, an organization deeply rooted in the traditions of 9-man volleyball. Our program emphasizes sportsmanship, discipline, and a strong sense of community both on and off the court.

Check-in 3:00-3:30pm
Tryouts 3:30-5:30pm

August 17th (2nd Cut)
Check-in

💵 Tryout Fee: $35 due Friday August 15th by Noon.

Program Details

  • Season: September 2025 – March 2026 (~7 months)

  • Practice Schedule: TBD —Indoor gym on weekends at least once a week

  • Tournaments: Anticipated 4–5 overnight tournaments (travel and lodging not included)

  • Program Fee: $3,000. Payment plans available.

FAQs

What is NY Strangers Club Volleyball?
NY Strangers Sports Association is a youth volleyball program that combines high-level coaching, competitive tournament play, and a strong sense of community. We offer a unique experience rooted in tradition, athletic development, and team bonding.

Who is eligible for the 16U team?
The 16U team is for athletes who are 16 years old or younger as of July 1, 2026. Please refer to the AAU Volleyball Juniors player age definitions for eligibility (attached below). If you’re unsure whether your child qualifies, feel free to contact us for clarification at youthprogram@nystragners.org.

When is the season?
September 2025 – June 2026
, culminating in the AAU Nationals.

What are the fees?
Total program cost: $3,000 per athlete covering

  • Tournament entry fees
  • Gym rentals
  • Insurance
  • 2–3 uniforms
  • Coaching and training.

Note: Hotel, transportation, and food for tournaments are not included in the fee and are the responsibility of the family.

Are payment plans available?
Yes. We understand that club volleyball is an investment, and we’re happy to discuss payment plan options to help make participation accessible for your family.

When and where are practices?
Practices are typically 1–2 times per week, with most sessions held on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Location details will be shared upon registration but will be in the NYC/Queens area.

How many tournaments will the team play in?
We anticipate attending 4–5 overnight tournaments, including the AAU Nationals in Orlando, Florida in July 2026. Local one-day tournaments may also be added based on team availability and development needs.

Do parents need to travel with the team?
Yes, families are responsible for their child’s travel and lodging. Blocks of hotels will be booked for the team. It is the responsibility of the parent to coordinate travel.

What’s included in the uniforms?

Each athlete will receive 2–3 full uniforms, which may include:

  • Game jerseys
  • Shorts
  • Warm-up gear
  • Team bag or sweatshirt (TBD)

What is 9-man volleyball?
9-man volleyball is a legacy sport within Chinatown communities, traditionally played by adult men’s teams. By joining NY Strangers, your child may have the opportunity to bridge into this community, forming long-term mentorships and becoming part of a multi-generational volleyball family.

Who are the coaches?
Our coaching staff includes experienced club and high school coaches, many of whom have competed at the collegiate and club level. Our coaches are committed to athlete development, both in skill and character.

What if my child plays other sports or has other commitments?
We value well-rounded athletes. While commitment to the team is important, we are willing to work with families to manage scheduling conflicts with communication and advance notice.

What is the team culture like?
Our program emphasizes family, discipline, community, and growth. Players will not only train to win but to grow as teammates, leaders, and young adults. We aim to build friendships that last far beyond the court.
